GitHub Copilot Workspace: worth another look in 2026?
Copilot Workspace was underwhelming at launch. The 2026 rebuild changes the calculation.
GitHub CopilotReviews
Copilot Workspace shipped a real overhaul this quarter — a new planner, tighter Actions integration, and Claude and GPT-5 as backing models. We took it back out for a spin.
What improved
- Plans are now editable inline before execution — no more all-or-nothing runs.
- PR previews live directly in the workspace, so review-and-iterate loops are much shorter.
- Cross-repo context works on org-scoped repos without extra setup.
What's still rough
Latency remains the weak spot. A cold workspace can take 30 seconds before the first token, which kills the vibe when you're used to Claude Code's snappier feel.
Verdict
A credible option now, especially for teams already deep in GitHub Actions. Not our first pick, but no longer easy to dismiss.
